The White Buffalo – A Brief History of the California-Based Alt-Country Rock Band

The band, fronted by vocalist and songwriter Jake Smith, have produced critical and commercially acclaimed records through their unique melding of country, blues, Folk, and rock.

Origin

The White Buffalo formed when its founder and leader, Smith, decided to move away from Los Angeles and relocate to nearby Ventura County. Prior to The White Buffalo, Smith had crafted a career as a rock and blues musician and collaborated with some of the most prolific acts of the time, such as The Eagles and [John Lee Hooker](https://www.bandsnear.com/artist/john-lee-hooker/K8vZ91718gf). With its combination of folk, alt-country and punk, the album quickly gained attention from fans and critics alike, garnering the band their break-out single "The Whistle Song".

The band went on to release several more albums, with the most popular being 2007's Hogtied Like A Rodeo and 2008's Shotgun Tom Kelly. The albums showcased the band's ability to transition between genres with ease, while still maintaining its signature style of intense and powerful songwriting.
