Roch Voisine is a Canadian singer, songwriter and actor, who rose from rags to riches and turned into a star of Quebec, Canada and beyond in a short time.
Voisine was born on March 26, 1963 in the small town of Edmundston in New Brunswick, Canada, to a French Canadian father and a Miâkmaq First Nations mother. He began to sing at an early age, often accompanying his father, who played the harmonica in a local band. By age 13, Voisine had already performed in various festivals and competitions, eventually winning the provincial Canadian music awards by 14.
At the age of 16, he decided to pursue his musical career in French Quebec, where he quickly found success in the local music scene, recording his first demo at Ăditions Rudi.
Voisine's started his career in 1986 with his debut single, "HélÚne", a gentle love song that quickly become a major success across France and Belgium. The song was followed by "Avant de Partir" and the debut album, "HélÚne", which sold over two million copies.
In 1990, Voisine released his only double album, "Double", which also became a major hit, followed by several hit singles, such as "Je Te Serai FidĂšle", "Chambre Avec Vue", "Adam et Ăve", and "Toujours LĂ ". Some of his most popular songs also include "Kathy", "Longue Distance", "Kissing Rain", and "I'll Always Be There", among others.
According to numerous interviews, Voisine's current band includes guitarists Jean-Guy Bouchard and Claud Charlebois, keyboardist Philippe LaRoche, bassist RĂ©al Pelletier, and drummer Marc SĂ©guin. He has collaborated with many French musicians, such as Câline Dion, Elie Dupuis, George Monbiot, and others.
