Mike Dawes is an internationally-renowned, multi-award winning British guitarist. He is widely considered one of the most innovative acoustic guitar players today. Having first picked up the instrument aged 11, he soon began carving out what would be a lifelong career.
Born and raised in Brighton, England, Mike Dawes first began to take an interest in guitar playing in his late teens. He became inspired after attending a Peter Gabriel show and hearing him play percussion during the performance. Initially self-taught, he quickly developed a unique and powerful style of playing that included heavy use of alternate tunings and percussive techniques.
In 2008 Mike joined forces with fellow guitarists Thomas Leeb and Andy McKee, forming the now-legendary trio The Guitar Masters. During this time the band toured internationally to critical acclaim, selling out shows around the world.
Following his stint with The Guitar Masters, Mike began a new journey, focusing on his solo career. He eventually created and released his debut album, titled What Just Happened?, in 2013. He then followed this up with Physical Graffiti, released two years later in 2015.
Mike Dawes is a highly influential figure in the acoustic guitar industry and is often compared to living legends such as Andy Mckee, Thomas Leeb, and Sungha Jung. He is highly respected for his unique playing style, which is often referred to as ‘fingerstyle’.
