Mastodon is an American heavy metal band from Georgia, formed in 2000. It has been at the forefront of the metal music world since its inception and has produced some of the most iconic songs of the genre. The band is composed of T.Conner, Brann Dailor, Brent Hinds, Troy Sanders and Bill Kelliher.
Mastodon was formed in 2000 by original members T. Conner (vocals, guitars), Brann Dailor (drums and vocals) and Brent Hinds (guitars and vocals). They have released a total of eight studio albums, starting with their 2002 debut album Leviathan. It was an instant success and was followed by Remission (2004) and Blood Mountain (2006), both of which saw the band becoming increasingly progressive in approach. Crack the Skye (2009) was the breakthrough album, with the singles Oblivion and Divinations becoming highly popular in the metal scene. Their 2014 album, Once More 'Round the Sun, focused more on the heavier side of the band's sound, while Emperor of Sand (2017) and Medium Rarities (2020) draws from both styles.
T. Conner remains the frontman for the band and has been since the band's inception. Brann Dailor is the drummer and co-vocalist, while Brent Hinds plays lead guitar. Troy Sanders, formerly of the band Gone Is Gone, took over bass duties in 2006 and his tenure to date has seen the band experiment with different song arrangements. Bill Kelliher rounds out the band's current lineup, providing rhythm guitar and additional lead interludes.
