Los Tigres del Norte are a legendary Mexican musical longtime act, originating from Rosa Morada, a small town in the western part of Mexico. The famous band is the most successful and influential group in the Regional Mexican music genre, mixing traditional and modern styles of corridos, ballads, boleros, and cumbias with their powerful lyrics.
Los Tigres del Norte was formed in 1965 by three brothers, Hernán, Jorge, and Eduardo Hernández, together with their cousin, Omar Hernández. They were then joined by their father, Hernán Hernández, and uncle, Francisco Hernandez. The combination of the musical talents of these five family members, they decided to join forces and tour around their native Mexico.
Starting from humble beginnings playing in rodeos and cantinas across their home state, the band quickly became famous for their original music, marrying Mexican folklore and traditional tunes to create their own unique style. Despite the considerable popularity enjoyed in Mexico, their breakthrough to commercial success came in the mid 1970s with their first big hit single, “Contrabanda y Traición”, becoming an instant success not only in Mexico but across the US. Over their fifty year career, Los Tigres del Norte have undergone several lineup changes, mainly in their early career. These original members of the group have included the five founding family members, Hernán, Jorge, Eduardo Hernández, Omar Hernández and their father Hernán Hernandez and uncle Francisco Hernandez. In 1970, the next member to join was Jorge Torres, followed by Luis Chávez González in 1972, Marco Antonio Hernández in 1978 and now Juan Aceves Hernández.
