Origin

Kjartan Lauritzen was born in 1967 in Bergen, Norway. At a very early age, his parents instilled in him a love of music, culture, and history. His mother, a classically trained pianist, recognized his interest in music at an early age and soon began to teach him piano, violin and guitar. Through his mother’s guidance and support, his love of music flourished.

Band History

In 1987, Lauritzen formed the band “Kjartan’s Drifters.” With guidance from Lauritzen, the group quickly gained national attention for their unique blend of Americana, folk, jazz, and blues. They were particularly well known for their unique mix of traditional Scandinavian folk and Americana, a sound which quickly carried them throughout Europe, with their first concert in Italy. In the following years, Lauritzen’s Drifters continued to release critically acclaimed albums and tour throughout Europe, as well as the United States and Canada.
