A Brief History of In Flames

In Flames was founded by guitarists Jesper Strömblad and Glenn Ljungström in 1990 as part of the new wave of Swedish death metal. Drawing from both traditional heavy metal and thrash metal, the band released their debut album Lunar Strain in 1994. This release firmly established the Gothenburg metal sound, and In Flames quickly became one of the ambassadors of this musical movement.

In Flames returned in 1996 with their second album The Jester Race, their first for the major label Nuclear Blast Records. This widely acclaimed album paved the way for the group's global success, cementing them as a major act in the metal scene.

From 1997 to 2021, the band released eleven records, to ever-increasing critical and commercial success. They have also sold out tours and graced the stages at numerous festivals.
