Ilse DeLange: Country Music Superstar

Ilse DeLange has been making waves on the country music scene since the early 1990s with her unique blend of folk, rock, country and blues. The Dutch singer-songwriter has been a consistent presence on the country music charts for decades, and her career shows no sign of slowing down.

Origin

Born and raised in Almelo, Netherlands in 1977, DeLange began her career playing in local bars and clubs before eventually releasing her first album, World of Hurt, in 1994. Her work soon caught the attention of record labels, and within a few short years she had established herself as one of the most influential and popular female country musicians of her time.

Band History

In 2003, Ilse DeLange formed the Americana-influenced country-rock band The Common Linnets with songwriting partner Waylon Jennings, formally known as the Band of St. James. Together they released their debut album The Great Escape in 2004 and enjoyed great commercial success, winning their first and only Dutch Grammy Award for Best Album in 2006.

Members Chronology

Over the years The Common Linnets have seen various members come and go. In 2006, longtime band members Dave Wils Picken and Remon de la Berg left the group, with Picken ultimately forming his own band Living Room Barns. In 2008, Ilse’s sister Erna joined the group, and in 2011 Waylon Jennings left to pursue a solo career. In the years that followed, the group’s line-up continued to evolve and currently includes Ilse DeLange herself, her longstanding bandmates Ad van Dijk and Berry Tup en Sam Ruiterman.
