Godsmack is an American hard rock band from Lawrence, Massachusetts. Since establishing in 1995, the band has garnered a dedicated fan base with its dynamic blend of hard-hitting metal with powerful, heavy driving rhythms.
Godsmack formed in 1995, when Sully Erna, Tony Rambola, and Robbie Merrill joined forces. They were later joined by Lee Richards, who was playing drums in one of Erna's early bands. With Erna on the vocals and lead guitar, they started playing various clubs in their local area. It wasn't until 1998, when they released their self-titled debut album, that Godsmack hit the mainstream. The album soared to the top of the Billboard 200 chart and has since gone on to sell over four million copies.
The band followed up their 1998 debut with a string of successful albums and sold out tours around the United States, Europe and Japan. Godsmack released their second album "Awake" in 2000, which proved even more successful than its predecessor. It also gave them their first two Top 10 hits, "Vampires" and "Awake".
In 2003, the band released their third album, Faceless, which was again hugely successful and spawned a number of hit singles. "I Stand Alone" reached Number 1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and the accompanying music video won a VMA for Best Rock Video.
Godsmack continued their success into the mid-2000s with their fourth studio album, IV, which produced the smash hit single "Straight Out Of Line". In 2006, the band released their fifth album, "Good Times, Bad Times", which was their second success to reach number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
