Antimatter is a British alternative rock/metal band formed in 1997 by members Duncan Patterson and Mick Moss. The band has since released 8 studio albums, and has been often compared to bands such as Porcupine Tree and Anathema.
The duo first collaborated on the 1997 debut album Savior, released on the French label Consequence. The album was successful in Europe and featured the singles “Unreal”, “Paradox”, and “The Perfect Mystery”. The album showcased the bands' blend of dreamy goth rock and progressive metal influences, drawing comparison to the Bristol goth rock band, The Cure.
Since the success of their first album, Antimatter has gone on to release seven more studio albums and has had various line-up changes. The 2002 album Lights Out released on Snapper Records, featured the singles “One Skin Too Late” and “Thief of Dreams”. From 2007 to 2011, Antimatter released three albums on their own label, Prophecy Productions. These included Leaving Eden alongside the live albums and Alternative Matter and Fear Of A Unique Identity. In 2013, they signed to German label,raromusic and with this label they released the album The Judas Table. In late 2015, they released the cover album The Strange Last Flight Of Richard Russell. Their most recent album, Black Market Enlightenment was released in 2020.
ML Moss and Duncan Patterson formed Antimatter in 1997, with Duncan Patterson on bass, Mick Moss on guitar and vocals and Duncan's brother, David Patterson, on drums. The band's current line-up is Mick Moss (vocals and guitars), Duncan Patterson (bass and backing vocals) and Andrea Favaron (drums and percussion). The band has had a few other members, who have contributed to their sound over the years: John Bennett (keyboards, 1999-2001), Duncan Harcup (drums, 1999-2001), Mick Van Mierlo (keyboards, 2001-2003), Nat Wason (guitar, 2003-2011) and Gavin Dobson (keyboards, 2006-2011).
Antimatter has been compared to several alternative rock and metal bands, such as Anathema, Porcupine Tree, My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, The Cure, Black Sabbath, Riverside and Pink Floyd.
Some of Antimatter's most famous songs are “One Skin Too Late”, “Unreal”, “Thief of Dreams”, “Paradox”, “The Perfect Mystery”, and “Redcell.” Their latest single, "Black Market Enlightenment", has been a hit in many countries.
