Andrew Ripp grew up in Los Angeles, where he began composing and playing music at an early age. After being accepted into Northwestern University for its acclaimed music program, Ripp pursued a degree in jazz trumpet before making both a return to Los Angeles and a transition to songwriting. He accumulated an impressive collection of grants and scholarships, which enabled him to build his own studio.

In 2006, Andrew entered the studio to begin work on his debut album, Fifty Miles To Chicago. Besides his own voice and instruments, the album was made up of dozens of musical friends he had acquired over the years. In 2007 the record was completed and embraced by critics alike. During this time period, Ripp made two international tours and several West Coast runs, touching 100 cities in eight countries over the course of two years.
