Andrea Bocelli is an internationally-renowned opera singer and songwriter from Italy. He was born on September 22, 1958 and is best known for his beautiful and powerful performances of a wide variety of traditional operatic works as well as crossover and other popular music. As well as having multiple awards and recognitions that honour his accomplishments in music, Bocelli has also accomplished a great deal of charity work throughout his career.
Bocelli began his career as a young teen, singing in the cathedral of his hometown of Lajatico, Italy. At the age of fourteen, he won the Trofeo Marcello Mastroianni vocal competition in Italy. He soon began formal studies in classical music and opera in Pisa. By 1982 he had graduated with a degree in Law from the University of Pisa and he moved to Italy where he started to perform as a singer in clubs and made his first album in 1994. His first international success came three years later, with the release of his first English-language album, Romanza which sold more than 7 million copies worldwide and received several awards.
Bocelli has been performing for over 30 years and has recorded with many famous musicians and producers such as David Foster, Bryan Adams, Carole King and Tony Renis. He has released several albums in multiple languages, from English to Spanish, Latin and German. He has even recorded and collaboration with big names such as Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez and even Tony Bennett. Bocelli's main music style is classical and operatic but he has dipped his hands into other genres including rock, pop, jazz and even reggae.
Bocelli has always been a solo performer, but on some of his albums, and live performances, he has been accompanied by many artists.
